Deity Series: Aphrodite

Aphrodite is from the Greek Pantheon, and she is the goddess of beauty, love, procreation, passion, and pleasure. This makes working with Aphrodite for these purposes particularly helpful.

She has two different origin stories. One of which, from the tales of Homer, in which she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. However, according to the tale of Hesiod, she was born off the coast of Cythera out of the foam from Uranus’ genitals, and such is associated with the sea and water. If you’re creating an altar in her honor, you can include items like shells and pearls.

Aphrodite was so beautiful and compelling, she attracted all of the Gods in Olympus. To remedy this, Zeus married her off to Hephaestus, who was considered the least attractive of the Gods. But Aphrodite had no plans to remain faithful. She had many affairs with the Gods as well as the mortals. Due to this, one can work with Aphrodite for spells involving beauty, attraction, and fertility.

Working with deities can be a bit of a dance. At times, a deity will seek out a person, but for other workings, you may have to reach out to a deity. Before doing so, read as much as possible about a particular goddess and then attempt to form a relationship. It’s a bit like dating in that you will be the suitor, eager to make a good impression. Attraction Oil:

You can mix this Attraction Oil below for a quick way to connect with your inner goddess! Combine the below ingredients. You can use essential oils or dried herbs, but the recipe below includes instructions for essential oils. You will use Avocado Oil as the carrier oil due to its association with Venus. If using dried herbs, give this oil time to extract the properties from the dried ingredients. If you’re using essential oils, you can use them immediately to spark your inner fire. This recipe calls for 5 drops of each oil as this number is associated with Venus and Aphrodite.
