Divination Series: Pendulums

A pendulum is defined as a weighted object that is attached to the end of a chain or cord. A pendulum can come in many different materials, such as crystals, metals, wood, and glass but never a magnetic material. Each of these types of materials used to create a pendulum comes with its own energy.

Crystal pendulums carry their own frequencies, and this is in relation to the properties of the crystals themselves. Clear quartz can be a good option for a more vast array of properties due to the open nature of the crystal itself. It is a stone that amplifies energies as well as cleansing and balancing. If you have a specific purpose for your pendulum, you can seek out a crystal that aligns with this intent. You can also check out our pendulum collection to learn more about the individual crystals and their correspondences.

Metal pendulums can include brass, copper, silver, and gold. Due to the nature of their composition, these materials are conductors and, therefore, more receptive to subtle energies. There is an argument on each side of the coin for this. Some people believe metal pendulums to be better for this reason, whereas others believe that their responsiveness to all energies interferes with their purpose.

Due to this, wood, which is the least conductive material, is sometimes preferred because they are not affected by outside energies. They are only receptive to the energy of the person holding the item.

You should select your pendulum based on your own individual preferences. Use your intuition to guide you to which energy you’d prefer to work with.

How To Use a Pendulum?

The first thing you should do with your pendulum is to cleanse it. This can be achieved by submerging it in running water, using sunlight, moonlight, smoke cleansing, or even a saltwater bath. Be mindful of the material of your pendulum before choosing a method to cleanse it.

For instance, certain crystals are not water safe. For a list of some of the common crystals that are not water safe, please see our list referenced in this article!

The next step is to program your pendulum.

Clear your mind and hold your pendulum between your thumb and index until it stops swinging. Once your pendulum is still, ask your pendulum simple “yes” or “no” questions that you know the answers to. This will help you gauge your pendulum’s responses. The pendulum can move horizontally, vertically, and in a circular motion. As you are doing this, record your responses and their corresponding motions.

It is important to find out how your pendulum responds so you can use it accordingly!

Periodically, your pendulum will need to be cleansed again using the above methods to get rid of energies that can be accumulated. You can do this routinely before each use, or you can cleanse it when you feel that you’re not connecting with your pendulum.

Things To Do With Your Pendulum:

Pendulums are best for “yes” or “no” answers. Use them to help connect to your higher self to determine questions that can be answered using these simple responses.

While they can be used for more detailed responses, be prepared to recite a dissertation to get to your final answer unless you use a pendulum mat.

Pendulums can be used to determine blocked chakras. To do this, have the person lie down and move the pendulum under each chakra. Notice which chakras are blocked based on your particular pendulum’s response.

Pendulums are also useful for locating lost items. To do this, you will still need to adhere to the standard “yes” or “no” process, but it can narrow down its coordinates until you locate the item! Ask questions such as “Is it in the kitchen?” If the answer is yes, you can continue with more specific questions such as “Is it in the pantry?” to “Is it on the top shelf?”

You can also use your pendulum to detect ‘stank energy’ inside your home!

To do this, you would need to be in the room and ask your pendulum yes or no questions pertaining to the energies within the room. You can even narrow down the location within the room by asking more specific questions about the whereabouts of the unwanted energy.

This is not an all-inclusive list by any means! You will find that there are several useful ways to use your pendulum as you progress in your use of this wonderful tool.
